Weston Manor Hotel

Location of the haunted place: Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire.

Origin of the haunting: 11th/12th Century

Background: In the 11th Century this hotel was a monastery. The main building dates back to 14th and 16th centuries. It was the ancestral home of the Earls of Abington and Berkshire and was once the property of Henry VIII. This is Sister Maude's story.

Ghost story: I didn't know any better. The monks liked me to come over and see them. Sometimes I brought them things and sometimes they just wanted me. I didn't mean any harm. They showed me affection and I didn't think there was anything wrong with giving them some comfort.

I was in one the monk's cells when we were caught. They blamed me, they said I led him astray. That wasn't right; he encouraged me. I was tried and found guilty of breaking my vows of chastity. They burned me at the stake outside the monastery. I think they let the monk off with a severe reprimand. It was so unfair.

I visit the hotel, but I don't mean anybody any harm. I like the room with the four-poster bed the best. Some people think that was the room I was caught in.
