Vernham Dean

Location of the haunted place: Hampshire

Origin of the haunting: 17th Century

Background: Vernham Dean is a village 7 miles from Andover. In 1665 the plague struck. The ghost of the vicar tells the story.

Ghost story: I was a good vicar, always tended to my parishioners. But my courage left me when the plague infected the village and I deserted the villagers; left them to face the disease alone. I persuaded them to leave and flee to Conholt Hill after the first deaths and this is where you will see my bent, repentant figure. I struggle along the Chute Causeway towards the camp at the top of the hill hoping it's not too late to be with my people.
