Background of the haunted place: This moated manor house built in 1340 was home to the Selby family from the late 16th Century to the middle of the 19th Century. This is Dame Dorothy Selby's story.
Ghost story: I sent a letter to Lord Monteagle and told him not to attend Parliament on 5th November 1605. I had to warn him, otherwise he would have been killed. This led to the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot and supporters of Guy Fawkes blamed me for its failure. They locked me in a small secret room in this house and left me to die.
My bones were only discovered at the end of the 19th Century by some workmen. Although you cannot see me, if I am around you will feel a distinct chill in the air; especially in the tower.
