Location of the haunted place: West Clandon, Surrey
Origin of the haunting: 18th Century
Background of the haunted place: The present mansion dates from 1730. The gardens, designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown, have not changed since they were laid out in 1770. The house was built by the Venetian architect, Giacomo Leoni, for the 2nd Lord Onslow. His wife's ghost tells the story.
Ghost story:It was to be our home. A lovely place where my husband and I could be happy. My husband got his fortune from me but that did not change things between us. We were together and that is all that mattered. I was so looking forward to the completion of the house. Giacomo Leoni was such a talented architect.
Alas, it wasn't meant to be. I died before the house was completed. Although I never got to live in it with my husband, I still visit occasionally. I am the ghostly lady in the cream satin dress.
