Origin of the haunting: 16th/17th Century
Background of the haunted place: Built between 1618 and 1635 by Sir Thomas Holte, a personal friend of Charles I, it was the last conventional Jacobean house to be built in England. Sir Thomas had a daughter and her ghost tells the story.
Ghost Story: My father was a hard man, a rich and influential man; he did not like to be disobeyed. I fell in love with someone he did not approve of. We met in secret and made plans to run away and get married. Somehow my father found out and locked me in a room in the house.
He kept me imprisioned there for 16 years. I knew my punishment would be harsh after he disinherited my brother for marrying the wrong woman -
